The building dates from the Venetian period and was converted into a library in 1928 by Antonio Malmo. It sits in the heart of Chania Old Town, a 5-minute walk from Koum Kapi Beach and a 10-minute walk from Mitropoleos Square. The Folklore Museum of Chania is less than 500 meters away, and the Municipal Market of Chania is a 3-minute walk.
